Edward Joy Electric was founded by Edward Joy in 1875. The business was originally located at the corner of East Washington and Market Streets, across from the modern City Hall building. In 1954, Edward Joy Electric’s building was subject to eminent domain by the state of New York for its new Hughes Office Building. Thus, forcing the company to move to its current location on Canal Street.
The company has participated in the construction of many Syracuse area landmarks, such as the State Tower Building, Onondaga courthouse, St Joseph’s Hospital, Le Moyne College, Colgate University and Syracuse University.
